The Challenge

Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts identified a need to further strengthen interaction and negotiation skills as part of its financial leadership training.

While participants have strong analytical and financial expertise, real impact in leadership situations depends on the ability to communicate effectively, influence stakeholders, and navigate complex discussions.

Lucerne wanted to explore how these skills could be developed in a more practical and engaging way—moving beyond theory into real-life application.

The Solution

In collaboration with LessonLab, a customized, AI-powered simulation was developed to support financial leadership training.

The simulation places participants in realistic, interactive scenarios where they take on a leadership role and engage in discussions with multiple stakeholders represented by AI agents. The experience mirrors real-world situations, where participants need to build alignment, present arguments, and guide conversations toward a desired outcome.

Participants are engaged in dynamic, interactive conversations where the outcome evolves based on their decisions. The simulation provides immediate feedback and evaluates performance against selected criteria, supporting continuous learning and reflection.

This creates a safe environment to practice challenging situations and refine communication and negotiation skills without real-world risk.

The Impact

The simulation introduced a practical dimension to financial leadership development by enabling participants to actively practice interaction and negotiation skills.

Participants experienced the training as engaging and relevant to their everyday work. The interactive format helped them better understand how their communication style influences outcomes and supported the development of more confident and effective leadership behavior.

The pilot demonstrated how AI-powered simulations can complement traditional leadership training by bringing a strong focus on application and real-world situations.

Next Steps

The collaboration has provided valuable insights into how simulation-based learning can be integrated into leadership development programs, with further development opportunities to be explored.
