Initial Situation

Meyer aimed to enhance the expertise of their area managers in the management of area construction projects. Simultaneously, the goal was to create an effective onboarding tool for new area managers. The need was clear: to develop a training solution that would inspire learners and be practical for the future.

Solution

LessonLab, in collaboration with Meyer, developed an innovative training program centered around an area construction simulation game. This game provided a virtual environment where the process of area construction management unfolded step by step. The simulation included unforeseen events and risks typical of real area construction projects. The goal of the simulation game was to complete the construction of a selected area within the given schedule, budget, and quality targets.

Results

Meyer’s area managers were trained in two separate training sessions during our project. The feedback received on the learning experience was extremely positive. Learners felt that the game-based approach provided a comprehensive overview of an area manager’s work. The contents and mechanics of the simulation game were praised for their realistic nature.

The significance of the discussions during the training was highlighted as they deepened learning and provided an opportunity to reflect the decisions made in the simulation game to real-life work situations. This interactive approach helped learners to better understand the challenges and opportunities of area construction management.

Overall, the training based on the simulation game proved to be an excellent method to train area managers. It not only provided theoretical knowledge but also offered learning similar to practical experience, easily applicable to real-life work situations. The collaboration between LessonLab and Meyer in this project laid a solid foundation for a culture of continuous learning, supporting successful area construction in the future.
