LessonLab has been involved in a research collaboration with Åbo Akademi University, working with Professor Magnus Hellström and his team.
The research tackles a real challenge in organizational change situations: when communicating change, the same message lands very differently depending on who receives it. A confident, adaptable employee responds differently from one who is anxious or needs more support. Practicing how to communicate with these different personality types is difficult in real life but essential for effective leadership.
In the study, LessonLab’s Taito simulation platform was used to build five AI-powered employee archetypes, each with a distinct psychological orientation toward change and resilience. Participants practiced communicating organizational change to these archetypes in a realistic organizational change scenario, and the archetypes evaluated the communication using a multidimensional framework that measures how individuals interpret uncertainty, cope with change, regulate stress, and engage with organizational adaptation, before reacting and responding accordingly.
The results are interesting. The AI archetypes produced clearly differentiated responses that were consistent with their intended profiles. More resilient archetypes responded more positively, while more vulnerability-sensitive ones showed lower commitment and higher stress, just as you would expect in real life. This suggests that theory-informed AI archetypes can serve as meaningful practice partners for communication training.
The preliminary findings are now being prepared in the form of a conference paper, demonstrating that LessonLab’s technology can support rigorous academic research into human communication and organizational behavior.
We will update more information as the research progresses.
