Our Story

The idea (2016-2017)

We, a bunch of Finnish academics, have been driven by the idea of making training and education engaging and motivating by offering learners the opportunity to apply their knowledge in practical contexts that reflect the real-world scenarios they will face.

Board games (2018-2019)

The initial conceptualization of our idea took the form of traditional board games. Our first concept solution was, in fact, a board game designed for practicing basic project management, including resource, cost, schedule, and risk management.

R2B Project (2020-2022)

Our concept was further developed into various simulation solutions through a Business Finland-funded research-to-business (R2B) project at University of Oulu. During this project, we published several peer-reviewed research articles on the benefits our concept and solutions offer.

Startup (2023)

Throughout the R2B project, hundreds of educators, students, trainers, and professionals worldwide implemented our simulations. We conducted over 70 different pilots and implementations globally. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, helping us continually improve our concept and simulations, and ultimately establish LessonLab.

Pivot (2024)

To better capture the nuances of real-world interactions, we shifted from game-based simulations to AI-powered simulations. Leveraging generative AI, our solutions now allow learners to engage in lifelike scenarios with dynamic responses, enhancing both realism and practical learning outcomes.
